For the past few versions Reality Capture has had an option to export a tiled LOD model. This option creates a file format which is conducive to streaming the 3d data over the web.

The three big advantages of uploading data in this format to Construkted Reality are:

  1. You can upload models of unlimited number of polygons to Construkted Reality.
  2. No processing on our end. Your model will appear as seen in Reality Capture window.
  3. Because of the lack of processing on our end, your models will be available and ready to share faster.

Process your model

First, align your images and create a 3d model.

There are no limits on the number of polygons you want to keep for the 3D Tile model.
(Construkted Reality will display any polygon count. There are no limits)

When it comes to texturing we recommend the “Optimal” texture quality for unwrapping and texture generation. This retains the highest amount of detail in the textures which translates in the best looking models.
(Construkted has no limits on the complexity or amount of detail in the texture)

Export from Reality Capture

Once the desired high resolution 3d model is created (complete with textures) use the following settings to process and export the Level-of-detail version of the model.

From the “Scene 3D” ribbon, select “Tools” and then “Levels of Detail”.

When asked for the filename and filetype, select “Cesium 3D Tile (*.json)” as the file format”

Next, you’ll have a few options to select.

Use the following image as a guide to the recommended settings.

After the processing completes, the generated output will be a folder and a json file.

Compress the contents of the folder which contains the .json file into one archive file (using either zip or 7zip) and upload the archive to Construkted Reality.

On the upload page, select “3D Tile” as the data type, and upload the compressed file you created earlier.

Your model will be available for viewing shortly after uploading.

Notes

If your data is geo-referenced inside of Reality Capture, the 3D Tile output will also be geo-referenced in Construkted Reality. However you may need to slightly tweak it’s elevation inside Construkted to place it on top of the terrain.

If you don’t want your data to show up geo-referenced in Construkted Reality, then you’ll have to re-process your images with the GPS data removed. There’s no other way currently to tell Reality Capture to export 3D Tiles in a local coordinate system.
